In the glass, this red wine from Popphof shows aromas of strawberries and violets, complemented by bitter almond and black cherry. Popphof Meraner presents itself to the wine enthusiast as pleasantly dry. This red wine never appears coarse or lean, but rather round and smooth. On the palate, this balanced red wine is characterized by an extremely meaty, velvety and dense texture. The finish of this red wine from the Trentino-Alto Adige wine-growing region, more precisely from Alto Adige / Südtirol DOC, finally delights with a beautiful aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets from the slate-dominated soils. Vinification of Meraner from Popphof The basis for the well-balanced Meraner from Trentino-Alto Adige is grapes from the Vernatsch variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Trentino-Alto Adige. Here the vines sink their roots deep into slate soils. After the grape harvest, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks and large wooden casks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the elegant Meraner is matured for several more months in oak barrels.
