Syrah - Boekenhoutskloof

Syrah - BoekenhoutskloofSyrah - BoekenhoutskloofThe Syrah of Boekenhoutskloof from the South African wine-growing region of Swartland is a varietally pure, complex and concentrated red wine. In the glass, this wine has a deep purple color with purple highlights. The expressive bouquet offers the nose a fruity-spicy composition. Notes of dark berry fruits - especially blackberry and black currant - floral hints of violet and intense hints of allspice, licorice and black pepper present themselves. On the palate, this South African red wine is concentrated and focused, yet does not lose its smooth texture. The very well-integrated acidity harmonizes perfectly with the firm, fine-grained tannins that give this red wine structure and balance. In the spicy, long finish, nuances of clove, nutmeg and cardamom reverberate. Vinification of the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah The grapes come from the two sites Porseleinberg and Goldmine in Swartland. The vines are rooted on rocky subsoil and decomposed mica schist soils. The berries are vinified separately by site. Some of the grapes are destemmed and then fermented spontaneously in tulip-shaped concrete vats. During this process, the mash is pumped over 2-3 times a day (délestage). After the fermentation process is completed, the Syrah grapes are blended. Finally, this red wine is aged for up to 18 months in traditional 2500 liter foudres and 600 liter barrels. Food recommendation for the Syrah Boekenhoutskloof We recommend this dry red wine from South Africa with steaks in pepper marinade and roast dishes in dark sauce. Awards for the Syrah from Boekenhoutskloof Tim Atkin: 95 points for 2014 Stephan Tanzer: 92 points for 2014 Robert M. Parker - The Wine Advocate: 92 points for 2014
