Blaufränkisch is the large red variety from DAC Leithaberg and has a similar status here as, for example, Pinot noir in Burgundy. 45-year-old Blaufränkisch vines bring depth to the red Leithaberg from the Glawarinza vineyard, which is aged for 24 months in 500l oak barrels to produce a fine wooden spice. Elegance and length come from the Leitha limestone floors. Dark berry confit, plums and nougat. Very fine balance between cool fruit, skilful use of wood, spice and subtle minerality. With a shelf life of great Burgundy wines. Excellent with game dishes, but also with Japanese cuisine (anything that can be marinated with teriyaki sauce).
