Galloni 91-93:Vivid ruby. Energetic raspberry and boysenberry aromas on the expressive nose and in the mouth, complicated by notes of white pepper and candied flowers. Juicy, energetic and pure; fine-grained tannins shape a very long, spice- and floral tinged finish. Parker 89-91:The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape is a more medium-bodied, elegant effort that has perfumed aromatics of darker berries, spice, garrigue and peppered meats. Showing the forward, perfumed and yet mid-weight style of the vintage, it has ripe tannin, plenty of fruit and will drink nicely for 7-8 years or more. One of the leading estates in Châteauneuf du Pape, Clos Saint-Jean is run by the Maurel brothers, with consulting advice from Philippe Cambie. In both 2013 and 2014, they opted to produce just two cuvees, their traditional Châteauneuf du Pape and their Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. The big news at the estate is the completion of the renovation of their old cellar, which is located on the northeastern edge of the village. As of the 2015 vintage, all of the wines will be made here.
