Urban Lagrein Riserva reflects our interpretation of South Tyrol's oldest indigenous red wine variety. A wine of sheer timeless charm. A long winter delayed the vines' spring awakening until early April. Bud break was followed by further cooling, which delayed full bloom. The turbulent season continued with a warm June and a wet July, which ideally prepared the soil for the onset of ripening. Dry weeks in August with exceptionally low night temperatures and a sunny autumn ensured picture-perfect weather. Although there were brief periods of rain at the end of September and beginning of October, many warm days and increasingly cooler nights dominated the harvest season. The harvest began about 10 days later than the usual annual average and also yielded significantly lower yields. The profound white wines of 2021 delight with their pronounced freshness and particularly fine fruit aromas, while the concentrated red wines impress with a ripe tannin structure and fresh fruit body. Color: ruby to dark garnet red. Aroma: delicate notes, ranging from the floral scent of violets to the fruity scent of blueberries and blackcurrants. Taste: impressive with typical bitter nuances, well-structured, full and velvety, with a hint of bitter cocoa and, above all, delightful forest fruit aromas on the finish.
