Fundament Spätburgunder - Weingut WageckThe Fundament Spätburgunder from the Wageck winery in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz is a varietally pure, complex and juicy red wine. In the glass, this wine shimmers a beautiful cherry red with ruby highlights. The nose is spoiled by an expressive bouquet of juicy cherries, ripe dark berries - especially blackberry - spicy hints and a subtle mineral touch. On the palate, a fine mineral grip is convincing, giving this German red wine its unusual, delicately grainy texture. Hints of vanilla are present, thanks to the wood aging. The well-integrated acidity gives this wine its fresh character and accompanies into the pleasantly long finish. Vinification of the Wageck Foundation Pinot Noir The Pinot Noir grapes for this red wine grow in plots in Bissersheim and Großkarlbach on extremely calcareous soils over tertiary limestone rock. The grapes are harvested by hand in vats at the end of September and selected already in the vineyard. In the Wageck winery, the berries are destemmed, sorted again and crushed. The maceration lasts 3 weeks. This is followed by a spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Finally, this wine is aged for 15 months in barriques and double barrels. Food recommendation for the Spätburgunder Wageck Fundament This dry red wine from Germany is an excellent food companion to strong meat stews, pork tenderloin in dark sauce or also to selected sausage specialties.
