Varneri Merlot Collio DOC - Marco FellugaThe Marco Felluga Varneri Merlot Collio is a first-class red wine in a glass. It has a wonderfully bright, purple-red color. When swirling the wine glass, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, as it is neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. The nose of this Marco Felluga red wine reveals all kinds of mulberries, plums, blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. The Marco Felluga Varneri Merlot Collio is wonderfully dry. This red wine is never coarse or austere, but round and smooth. Thanks to the balanced fruit acidity, the Varneri Merlot Collio flatters the palate with a soft sensation without lacking any juicy liveliness. On the finish, this youthful wine from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia wine-growing region finally delights with its beautiful length. Once again, there are hints of black cherry and morello cherry. Vinification of the Varneri Merlot Collio by Marco Felluga The basis for the well-balanced Varneri Merlot Collio from Friuli-Venezia Giulia are grapes from the Merlot grape variety. After the grape harvest, the grapes are transported to the press house as quickly as possible. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large oak barrels at controlled temperatures. Vinification is followed by maturation for 18 months in French oak barrels. The ageing in wooden barrels is followed by a long maturation in the bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex. Dining recommendations for the Varneri Merlot Collio by Marco Felluga Ideally enjoy this red wine from Italy at a temperature of 15 - 18°C as an accompaniment to goose breast with ginger red cabbage and marjoram, duck breast with sugar snap peas or braised chicken in red wine.
