The 2019 vintage was characterized by remarkable balance: sufficient rainfall fell at key times, while the pronounced temperature differences between day and night during the harvest contributed to a harmonious equilibrium between freshness and phenolic ripeness. Sangiovese is the dominant grape here, with over 90%, but a small percentage of Merlot lends the Chianti additional fruity charm. Fermentation takes place primarily in small stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts and a controlled temperature, followed by aging in French oak barriques from Allier for approximately 14 months, followed by bottle aging for at least another six months. A delicate nose with aromas of Marasca cherry, plums, and subtle toasted notes such as vanilla and licorice. The long aging of the Riserva ensures a silky-smooth tannin structure on the palate. The acidity is brilliant and removes any opulence or heaviness from the wine, remaining totally juicy and rather playful.
