When the glass is swirled, this red wine reveals great density and richness, visible in the “church windows” on the glass. On the nose, this Karl Pfaffmann red wine displays all kinds of blackberries, blackcurrants, plums, damsons and black cherries. As if that were not impressive enough, further aromas such as cinnamon, black tea and gingerbread spice are added by maturation in small wooden barrels. This dry red wine from Karl Pfaffmann is for wine lovers who like it absolutely dry. Cuvée Lara comes very close to this, having been vinified with just 0.9 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, this powerful red wine is characterized by an incredibly velvety texture. Thanks to its lively acidity, Cuvée Lara reveals itself on the palate as exceptionally fresh and vibrant. On the finish, this well-ageworthy red wine from the Palatinate wine-growing region finally delights with considerable length. Once again, hints of damson and black cherry appear. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the clay- and loam-dominated soils join in. Vinification of Cuvée Lara by Karl Pfaffmann The basis for the first-class and wonderfully powerful Cuvée Lara from Karl Pfaffmann is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Palatinate. Here, the vines sink their roots deep into clay and loam soils. A clearly significant influence on the development of the harvested fruit also comes from the fact that the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes thrive under the influence of a rather cool climate. This manifests itself, among other things, in particularly long and even clusters and a rather moderate alcohol content in the wine. The grapes for this red wine from Germany are harvested exclusively by hand once they are perfectly ripe. After the harvest, the grapes are immediately brought to the winery. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, Cuvée Lara is matured for another 24 months in oak barriques.
