La Petite Fleur Sauvignon Blanc - Château le Grand Verdus
La Petite Fleur Sauvignon Blanc - Château le Grand VerdusThe La Petite Fleur Sauvignon Blanc - Château le Grand Verdus flows into the glass in a bright straw yellow with glistening reflections. Delicate plays of light dance at the rim, heralding freshness and lightness. With the first swirl, a vibrant, clear fruit rises to the nose, precise and inviting. On the nose, ripe grapefruit and juicy lime appear, accompanied by white peach with a delicate creaminess. Fine notes of green apple, gooseberry and a hint of passion fruit complete the picture. A subtle herbal spice with hints of lemon balm and fresh mint adds appealing accents. Behind this lies a cool, stony minerality reminiscent of wet pebbles after summer rain. On the palate, the La Petite Fleur Sauvignon Blanc - Château le Grand Verdus is linear, crisp and animating. The acidity is lively and finely integrated, carrying the juicy fruit with elegant tension. Grapefruit and lime provide a clear, citrusy impulse. White peach and a hint of yellow stone fruit bring charm and a gentle, rounded texture. The body is medium-weight, precise and highly quaffable. No component seems heavy; everything remains slender and focused. The cuvée of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon delivers a harmonious combination of freshness, structure and delicate creaminess. Sauvignon contributes the crisp citrus fruit, Semillon adds depth, fine smoothness and a light pressure on the palate. The finish leaves a long, clear impression of citrus, white peach and cool minerality. A hint of grapefruit peel provides a finely bitter kick. The spice is reminiscent of white blossoms, some elderflower and a touch of lemon verbena. This creates a lively, very clear style, typical of modern whites from the higher elevations of Bordeaux. The vineyards of Château le Grand Verdus lie east of Bordeaux, on gently rolling hillsides. The cooler influence of the elevations, good air circulation and calcareous clay soils shape the terroir. During the day, the sun brings ripe aromas, while at night the temperatures drop significantly. Thus, the freshness is preserved and the grapes develop fine, clear fruit aromas. This cuvée illustrates very clearly what the region stands for: fruit, tension and terroir expression. Sauvignon Blanc brings freshness and fragrance, Semillon creates structure and elegance. Together they form a white wine with a clear line, crisp texture and a hint of southwestern French charm. Typical aromas of this wine at a glance: Grapefruit and lime with citrusy freshness White peach and a hint of yellow stone fruit Green apple, gooseberry and subtle exotic notes Fine herbs, white blossoms and cool minerality The style is clearly fruit-driven, fresh and yet with fine smoothness. The vines grow on calcareous clay soils with good drainage. These soils store moisture in depth and keep the vines in balance even in warm summers. The influence of the nearby Atlantic brings mild winters and moderate summers. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grow in separate parcels and each receives suitable care. Sauvignon is mostly planted in cooler, higher sites. There, the grapes ripen more slowly and develop fine citrus notes and animating acidity. Semillon tends to grow on somewhat warmer slopes, which leads to riper stone fruit and more volume in the wine. The harvest is selective and carried out as early in the day as possible, when temperatures remain low. This preserves the aromatics and ensures the grapes reach the cellar in perfect condition. Ripe berries are preferred; less perfect grapes do not make it into the cuvée. This increases the purity of the fruit and the precision in the final wine. In the cellar, the team relies on gentle handling. The grapes are quickly transferred to the press. A gentle pressing process extracts only the finest components from the grape skins. A short, cool period of skin contact intensifies aroma and fruit. The must then flows into stainless steel tanks, where fermentation takes place at a controlled, low temperature. The cool fermentation preserves the typical aromas of grapefruit, lime and peach. A clear, fresh aromatic profile develops, without disturbing heaviness. After fermentation, the wine rests for some time on the fine lees. Regular stirring of the lees, the bâtonnage, gives the wine more texture and a subtle creaminess.
