Riesling Orbel GG - St.Antony

At the southern end of the Roter Hang (Red Slope), the Orbel vineyard lies somewhat removed from the Rhine in a side valley. Here, too, red slate soil is omnipresent. Unlike in the Pettenthal valley, however, it is not bare slate bedrock, but fine slate gravel. At night, the side valley, which opens to the west, acts like a nozzle through which the Rhine draws in cool air from the surrounding area. This results in significantly cooler nighttime temperatures. The coolness preserves the acidity, and so the Orbel naturally exhibits a lively acidity that gives the wines an almost playful character. The wine presents itself with a cool and herbaceous nose. On the palate, it is clear and delicately juicy. Ripe to overripe peach notes with a hint of apple harmonize with herbal aromas and a subtle salinity. The wine's vibrant freshness is clearly noticeable and lends it a certain drive. With a piquant appearance and a firm body, it displays both power and backbone.
