Catharina - Steenberg

Catharina - SteenbergCatharina - SteenbergThe powerful Catharina von Steenberg flows into the glass with a dense purple color. Held at a slight angle, the Bordeaux glass reveals a charming garnet red hue at the rims. After initial swirling, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, evident in distinct church windows at the rim of the glass. Ideally poured into a Bordeaux glass, this Old World red wine offers delightfully distinguished aromas of blueberry, blackberry, morello cherry and black cherry, rounded out by other fruity nuances contributed by barrel aging. This red from Steenberg is the right choice for all wine connoisseurs who like it dry. However, it is never dry or brittle, as one would expect from a wine of this class. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully velvety. With its lively fruit acidity, the Catharina is exceptionally fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this good storable red wine from the Coastal wine region finally inspires with good length. Once again, hints of mulberry and black cherry show through. Vinification of the Steenberg Catharina The starting point for Steenberg's premium and wonderfully powerful Cuvée Catharina is Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot grapes. Catharina is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this South African exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. After the harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by 18 months of aging in French oak barrels. Food recommendation for Steenberg Catharina This red wine from South Africa is best enjoyed at a temperate 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to onion tart with thyme, duck breast with sugar snap peas or fennel salad with red lentils. Awards for the Catharina von Steenberg In addition to a price-pleasure ratio, this red wine from Steenberg can also boast awards and top ratings beyond 90 points. In detail these are John Platter Wine Guide - 4.5 stars Tim Atkin Master of Wine - 92 points
