95-99/100 PP Chave's 2000 Hermitage is a strong candidate for the wine of the vintage. The brutal crop thinning as well as selection process in the cellars has resulted in a wine that transcends the vintage's character. Most 2000 northern Rhones reveal flavor superficiality because of excessive yields, which caused a lack of depth as well as concentration (in spite of the fact that they are charming, ripe, and low in acidity). Chave's 2000 Hermitage is a tour de force. Tasting through the component parts is a lesson in the differences in Hermitage's terroirs. Moreover, the blend is always better than its individual parts. This profound Hermitage boasts a saturated blue/black/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of liquid minerality intermixed with creme de cassis and graphite. It is full-bodied, with low acidity, high tannin, and sensational extract and length. This is a fabulous Hermitage that combines extraordinary power, flesh, and succulence with remarkable freshness and delineation. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2040. (Robert M. Parker, Jr., robertparker.com) 94+/100 vinous.vom Saturated ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry, blueberry, clove, minerals and black licorice. Very ripe but precise and penetrating. At once lush and powerful; seamless but with terrific thrust. Black fruit, flint, spice and dark chocolate flavors offer considerable density and verve. Finishes with substantial noble tannins that arrive very late. Has all the elements for longevity. Give this 10 to 12 years before pulling the cork. This comes across as a bit denser than the young 2001 but not finer. The Chaves clearly did a superb job of harvesting in 2000. Seit 1481, also seit über 600 Jahren produziert die Familie, heute geführt von Jean-Louis Chave, die Referenz für große Weine aus Syrah. Alle großen Weinkritiker und Experten, sei es aus Frankreich, England oder den USA, verneigen sich vor ihrer großen Leistung über Jahrhunderte.  Da die Weine aus der Domaine Chave immer ausverkauft und in die kleine Produktion von ca. 2.000 Kisten/Jahr strengstens limitiert sind, hat Jean–Louis vor einigen Jahren damit begonnen, unter dem Namen „Jean-Louis Chave Sélection“ klassische Rhôneweine zu produzieren, für die er als Négociant die Trauben bei befreundeten Winzern aus besten Lagen selektiert und dann nach seinen Vorstellungen vinifiziert. Die daraus bisher erzielten Ergebnisse lassen Großes erwarten! Dennoch geht nichts über einen Hermitage Rouge oder Blanc der Domaine. Nach mind. 10-20 Jahren Reifezeit werden sie zu unvergesslichen Wein-Erlebnissen.
