Schweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut Jülg

Schweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut JülgSchweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut JülgIn the glass, Schweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut Jülg shows a bright lemon yellow with delicate golden reflections, clear and inviting. The very first impression sparkles like sunshine on light limestone. On the nose, a multi-layered, precise bouquet unfolds. Juicy pear comes to the fore, closely followed by ripe mango and yellow peach. Nuances of fresh citrus zest join in, with a hint of green banana and fine floral notes of acacia blossom. Beneath this lies a cool, chalky minerality reminiscent of wet stone and chalk. Subtle notes of almonds, a hint of hazelnut and delicate suggestions of light brioche indicate maturation in large wooden casks. A touch of smokiness and fine herbal aromas of lemon balm and chamomile round off the bouquet, lending the cuvée depth and tension. On the palate, Schweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut Jülg displays the typical elegance of a VDP.Ortswein from the limestone soils of Schweigen. The texture appears melting, almost creamy, yet the wine always remains clear and tightly focused. The fresh acidity sets a lively counterpoint to the ripe fruit and runs like a fine red thread through the entire tasting experience. Chardonnay provides structure and subtle spice, Pinot Gris contributes creaminess and volume, and Pinot Blanc adds drive and lightness. On the tongue, aromas of Williams pear, yellow apple and ripe peach dance, accompanied by a touch of mango and pineapple. The use of oak is finely judged, lying over the fruit like a delicate veil of vanilla, roasted almond and a hint of toast. The chalky minerality adds grip and gives the wine a clear contour. The body is medium in weight and very harmoniously balanced. The acidity is fine, precise and carries the wine far into the finish. The finish reveals notes of pear skin, slivered almonds, fresh lime zest and wet stone, along with an elegant, slightly salty vein. This combination gives the wine an impressive length and makes you want the next sip. The style appears classic and straightforward, yet seductive and melting. Palatinate charm meets Burgundian finesse, embedded in the cool terroir of Schweigen, directly on the French border. Typical of the limestone soils of the southern Palatinate, this cuvée of Burgundy varieties shows a noble restraint – not an obtrusive fruit bomb, but a finely tuned interplay of fruit, spice and minerality. The proximity to France and the slightly cooler influence in Schweigen lend Schweigen Calcaire Blanc - Weingut Jülg remarkable freshness and a clear, focused line. The wine’s character can be summed up in three strong attributes: precise fruit with pear, peach and mango chalky minerality with a cool, salty vein melting texture thanks to skilful use of oak For the flavour on the palate, three points of orientation help, which clearly emerge with every sip. Fresh fruit with citrus and yellow stone fruit subtle nutty and toasty spice from large wooden casks taut, mineral core from the limestone in the vineyard Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc from the Palatinate here enter into a fine dialogue whose result is a dry white wine with a classic, timelessly elegant style. A wine with high ambitions that appeals both to connoisseurs and to those who simply enjoy a melting, clear white wine with character. Production of Schweigen Calcaire Blanc from Weingut Jülg The grapes for Schweigen Calcaire Blanc come from selected parcels around Schweigen in the Palatinate. The region lies in the far south, directly on the border with Alsace, and enjoys a mild climate marked by abundant sunshine. The vineyards are predominantly rooted in limestone and calcareous marl, which give the wine its name “Calcaire”. These soils store warmth, drain water well and shape the wines with a characteristic, cool minerality. Chardonnay forms the backbone of this cuvée and provides structure, drive and subtle spice. Pinot Gris lends fullness, volume and its typical creaminess. Pinot Blanc completes the trio with freshness, gentle acidity and clear fruit. Together, they create a multi-faceted Burgundy profile that clearly expresses the terroir of Schweigen. The harvest takes place at the optimal point of ripeness, when fruit, acidity and aromatics are in balance. Selective work in the vineyard ensures clean, aromatically dense grapes. The fruit is brought quickly to the winery to preserve the freshness from the vineyard. In the cellar, Weingut Jülg relies on gentle, terroir-focused vinification. The grapes are gently pressed, and the must is lightly clarified before fermentation. Part of the cuvée ferments in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to promote freshness, fruit and clarity. The other part matures in large wooden casks, which impart fine structure, a light creaminess and subtle roasted notes without dominating the wine. Maturation in large wooden casks ensures a soft integration of the acidity and creates room for the nutty, slightly toasty notes that already appear on the nose. Stainless steel tanks prese...
