The Kirchenstück vineyard was first documented before the Thirty Years' War. Situated at an elevation of 150 meters in the middle of a plateau between two churches, it overlooks H.O.'s hometown of Hohen-Sülzen. His oldest vineyard, planted in the 1960s, lies in the ancient heart of the vineyard. Today, the wines come from the best plots of the entire Kirchenstück vineyard, have an average age of 35 years, and produce fruit-focused and profound wines. The soil consists of soft, calcareous stone and provides the vines with an excellent supply of nutrients despite the extremely calcareous subsoil. Characterized by its expressive fruit, the Kirchenstück is accessible even in its youth without compromising its great ripening potential.
