Fine Carignan grapes are the secret behind the popular LE BLAIREAU and define this wine. A small percentage of Grenache Noir and Syrah perfectly complement the wine, adding finesse and vibrancy. Sadly, the badger (blaireau) that lived on the edge of the vineyard has since been shot by trigger-happy French hunters. The Mas des Quernes label pays tribute to this friendly resident. Carignan is experiencing a true renaissance among connoisseurs. With controlled yields (old vines naturally do this), the wines delight with structure, fruit, and lively freshness. In times of climate change, varieties with a touch of acidity are once again in high demand. And alternatives to mainstream Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon wines offer a welcome change.
