The Ghiaia Nera Nerello Mascalese is an intense ruby red in the glass. Aromas of dark red cherries, floral notes, earthy and mineral hints unfold on the nose. On the palate, this Sicilian red wine is very tasty and complex, with velvety tannins, a medium body, a striking freshness thanks to the natural acidity and a long, mineral finish. A wine full of character that, despite 12 months in large wooden barrels, is ideal for drinking immediately. It is beautifully situated on the north side of the most active volcano in Europe, 99 terraces that frame other plantations, creating a biodiversity that helps shape the personality of the wines produced here. The name Ghiaia Nera means black gravel , referring to the volcanic soils interspersed with ash and lava. The Nerello Mascalese grapes are harvested manually and fermented at a controlled temperature for 6 days. After complete malolactic fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in large 60 hl Slavonian oak barrels.
