Vineyard Location & Terroir: In the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® HIMMELREICH, some of the vines are still trained using traditional single-pole trellises. The vineyard faces south-southwest to southwest, facing the river, which reflects the heat stored in the water and protects it from frost. It is also protected from the wind by the Moselle Valley. The soil consists of easily warmed blue and gray slate. The slope is crisscrossed by water veins, which supply the vines with water year-round. The vineyards are located at 110 to 260 meters above sea level and are moderately steep, with gradients of 45 to 65 percent.
