Frauenberg Riesling VDP Großes Gewächs - Battenfeld-Spanier

The Frauenberg in southern Wonnegau lies north of Hohen-Sülzen toward Flörsheim, at an elevation of up to 280 meters and a slope of up to 40%. This historic site was first documented in 1290 under the name an frauwenhalten (an Frauwenhalten) and was originally owned by a nunnery. H.O. Spanier brought the Frauenberg back from obscurity to the attention of wine lovers. Despite its southern exposure, the exposed location of the Frauenberg consistently benefits from cool winds; its surface consists of limestone gravel, and the subsoil is a solid limestone base. The vines have deep roots in the hard, mineral-rich soil. This makes them self-sufficient and allows for long, healthy growing seasons, even in extreme years.
