Perl Lagrein DOC - Kellerei BozenPerl Lagrein DOC - Kellerei BozenThe Perl Lagrein DOC - Kellerei Bozen presents a bright ruby red in the glass with violet reflections, dense and inviting. The eye sees clear rims that draw delicate streaks along the glass. This first impression promises power, depth and tension. On the nose, an intense fragrance of ripe blackberry and dark cherry unfolds. This is joined by aromas of plum, cassis and a hint of blueberry. Spicy notes of black pepper, fine dark chocolate and a touch of cocoa round off the picture. Slight roasted nuances are reminiscent of freshly ground coffee, mingling with hints of violet, dried herbs and a fine, cool minerality from the Dolomites. On the palate, the Perl Lagrein DOC - Kellerei Bozen shows a powerful yet precise structure. The tannins are firm, but ripe and silky, giving the wine a distinctive framework. The acidity appears fresh and lively, carrying the dark fruit with noticeable drive. The body is full, while the wine remains elegant and by no means heavy. The flavor shows blackberry, juicy black cherry, ripe sloe and a touch of elderberry, accompanied by chocolate, pepper, dark earth and a hint of tobacco. The finish is long, with spicy, slightly smoky nuances and a touch of licorice. Typical for Lagrein from South Tyrol, this is a multi-layered, characterful red wine. It combines alpine freshness with Mediterranean spice. The location in Alto Adige brings cool nights and sunny days, so the grapes ripen slowly and develop dense aromas. Gravel and alluvial soils around Bolzano give the wine its distinctive, often slightly mineral character. The Old World speaks clearly and directly from the glass here: not a loud drumbeat, but rather a fascinating, dense dialogue of fruit, spice and structure. The Lagrein grape variety, an autochthonous specialty from South Tyrol, clearly shapes the style. It stands for dark color, powerful tannins and a fascinating palette of spices. In the Perl Lagrein DOC - Kellerei Bozen , it shows its modern, finely honed side without losing its character. The wine appears fruit-driven and at the same time profound, with clear edges and a high recognition value. Production of Perl Lagrein DOC by Kellerei Bozen The grapes for this Lagrein come from selected sites around Bolzano in Trentino-South Tyrol. Alto Adige is one of the most exciting wine regions in Italy. Here, alpine influences meet a mild climate characterized by many hours of sunshine. Warm days and cool nights give the berries ripe aromas while preserving clear freshness. The soils are very diverse. They range from sandy alluvial land and gravel terraces to moraine debris with porphyry and dolomite rock. These varied subsoils shape the minerality and structure of the wine. Lagrein thrives particularly well on warm, well-drained soils near the valley floor, where it reaches full ripeness. Kellerei Bozen works with high quality standards and great experience with this autochthonous variety. The cooperative’s winegrowers focus on low yields and targeted canopy management so that the grapes ripen optimally. Harvesting is selective, plot by plot, often in the early morning hours to bring the grapes cool into the cellar. Ripe berries thus reach processing without detours. In the cellar, vinification begins with careful destemming and crushing of the grapes. Maceration at controlled temperature promotes color, tannin and aroma. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks so that the fruit clearly takes center stage. During this time, the cellar master maintains close contact with the must by selectively punching down the cap or pumping over the liquid. In this way, the typical dark color and distinctive structure of Lagrein are extracted. After completion of al...
