The selection of the best grapes gives birth to a great and complex wine. This wine presents a powerful shiny ruby red color with light purple reflections in the glass. Fine aromas of dark cherry and plum with spicy hints of tobacco box flow into the nose. On the palate, one senses an extract-rich body with well-integrated and fine-grained tannins. These are joined by opulent fruit aromas of sour cherry and dark forest fruits. These are underpinned by fine spice of cigar box, cinnamon and licorice. Vinification of the Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Reserva The grapes grow around the winery at the southern tip of Rioja Alta. This red wine cuvée is vinified from the grape varieties Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha. The grapes are destemmed and then temperature-controlled fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 days. During fermentation, must is pumped over the cap of the must (remontage), as well as the cap of the must is pressed into the fermenting wine (pigeage). Both procedures ensure high color and aroma extraction. After pressing, further aging takes place for 18 months in new and used American oak barrels. Then this wine is bottled and allowed to age in them for another 18 months. In order for Rioja to be called a Reserva under Spanish wine law, it must age for at least 3 years, one of which must be in barrique.
