Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse

91/100 vinous The 1989 Grand-Puy Ducasse might be one of the best mature vintages of this Pauillac that I have ever tasted. Deep in colour, it has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, cedar and a touch of cassis. Not a complex nose for sure, but it is nicely focused. The palate has a ripe entry that feels sorbet-fresh, notes of blood orange and vivid red fruit, crisp almost brittle in texture with a very tensile, quite tart finish. Das Interessante ist, daß Grand Puy Ducasse drei verschiedene Lagen besitzt. Eine Lage ist nahe Grand Puy Lacoste, zwei weitere Lagen sind bei Chateau Batailley und bei Chateau Pontet Canet gelegen. Also viele prominente Nachbarn. Die Weine von Grand-Puy-Ducasse sind in ihrer Jugend oft recht hart und tanninbetont. Man sollte Zeit geben, um ihrer Finesse offenbaren zu können. 62 Prozent Cabernet Sauvignon und 38 Prozent Merlot sind in der Cuvee enthalten, die Jahresproduktion beträgt inklusive des Zweitweins Artigues Arnaud maximal 18.000 Kisten. http://www.grandpuyducasse.fr/
