Yarden Petit Verdot - Golan Heights Winery
Yarden Petit Verdot - Golan Heights WineryIn the glass, Yarden Petit Verdot - Golan Heights Winery presents a bright, extremely dark purple with an almost black core and fine violet reflections at the rim. This dense color already hints at full structure and intense flavor. First impressions on the nose start with dark blackberry, ripe black cherry and juicy plum. Notes of cassis, some blueberry and a hint of dried blueberry join in. After a brief swirl, a multi-layered spiciness unfolds with black pepper, clove, nutmeg and a touch of star anise. Fine roasted aromas from the barrel ageing integrate elegantly. Delicate nuances of vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate and a touch of tobacco frame the dark fruit. A hint of cedarwood calls to mind fine cigar boxes. In the background appear dried herbs such as thyme and rosemary, along with delicate notes of violets and dried rose petals. A cool, mineral undertone brings freshness and reflects the highland of the Golan Heights. On the palate, Yarden Petit Verdot - Golan Heights Winery is powerful, structured and yet surprisingly elegant. The finely ripe fruit of blackberry, black cherry and dark plum immediately fills the mouth. Ripe, firm tannins provide noticeable grip, but remain silky and well integrated. The juicy, precise acidity lends the wine tension and length. The body appears full and forceful without heaviness. In the long finish, notes of licorice, dark cocoa, espresso, pepper and a touch of graphite resonate. The Petit Verdot grape variety is traditionally from Bordeaux. On the high, meagre sites of the Golan Heights, however, it develops an independent, expressive character. The climate shows distinct differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures. These fluctuations preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. Volcanic soils shape the style with a mineral backbone and fine spice. The wine thus appears simultaneously ripe, intense and yet focused. The stylistic expression clearly shows a “New World” character, but always remains precise and taut. For a quick overview of the wine’s character, a look at its key aromas is helpful: Dark fruits: blackberry, black cherry, plum, cassis Spice: black pepper, clove, nutmeg, licorice Oak notes: vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate, tobacco, cedarwood Floral tones: violets, dried rose petals Mineral accents: graphite, cool stony notes This combination creates a red wine that appeals both to experienced connoisseurs and to curious explorers looking for an aromatic journey. The wine invites mindful, unhurried enjoyment and reveals further nuances with every minute in the glass. The style appears clearly defined: Powerfully structured and forceful, with a ripe tannin base Fruit-driven, yet supported by spice and minerality Shaped by oak, but with good balance and elegance Long finish that entices the next sip Yarden Petit Verdot - Golan Heights Winery accompanies discerning connoisseurs through long evenings. It is ideal for moments in which calm, depth and intense aromas set the tone. This wine is suitable for enjoying on its own in a large glass, but also as a charming partner to powerful dishes. Its structure and aromatic depth make it a red wine with impressive presence and character. Production of Yarden Petit Verdot from Golan Heights Winery The grapes for this varietal Petit Verdot come from selected plots on the Golan Heights in northern Israel. The vineyards are located on high plateaus, in some cases clearly above sea level. The climate features warm, dry days and cool nights. This constellation favors slow, even ripening of the grapes. Volcanic soils with basalt components shape the roots of the vines and lend the wine its distinctive, mineral depth. Petit Verdot is a late-ripening variety and requires plenty of sunshine. On the Golan Heights, the variety receives abundant light, while the altitude protects it from excessive heat. The vines therefore produce concentrated, aromatic grapes with thick skins. These skins provide intense color, abundant tannin and dense fruit aromas. Yarden relies on strict yield reduction in the vineyard. This results in high concentration in the harvested fruit. Harvesting is selective and with a clear focus on fully ripe berries. The team already removes grapes of lesser quality in the vineyard. In the winery, a further sorting on tables follows in order to use only the best material for fermentation. Destemming and gentle crushing then take place. The goal remains the gentle extraction of the must without harsh bitter substances from seeds or stems. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. In this way, the fruit remains clear and precise while color and structure are intensely extracted from the skins. Regular pumping over of the cap ensures even extraction and finely integrated tannins. After fermentation, an extended maceration on the skins follows. This step lends the wine additional depth, complexity and ageing potential. Ageing takes place in high-quality oak barrels, partly in ...| Τιμή |
