If you give it some air in the wine glass by swirling, this red wine reveals a high density and fullness, which is evident in clear church windows at the edge of the glass. This single varietal South African wine reveals wonderfully expressive notes of plum, morello cherry, blackberry and plum in the glass. These are joined by hints of oak, cigar box and gingerbread spice. Steenberg's Merlot delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with only 3.8 grams of residual sugar. As you would naturally expect from a wine, this South African naturally enraptures with the finest balance despite all its dryness. Aroma does not necessarily need sugar. Full-bodied and multilayered, this velvety red wine presents itself on the palate. Due to the balanced fruit acidity, the Merlot flatters with a soft palate feeling, without lacking juicy liveliness. In the finish, this red wine from the wine-growing region of the Western Cape finally inspires with good length. Once again, hints of plum and black cherry show through. Vinification of the Merlot from Steenberg This red wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Merlot. Only the best grapes were harvested for this wonderfully powerful single-varietal wine from Steenberg. The ripening of the grapes for this Merlot wine is influenced to a considerable extent by the climate of the growing region. In the Western Cape, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly long and uniform grapes and a rather moderate must weight. After the hand harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are selected and carefully milled. This is followed by fermentation in controlled temperatures.
