Giovanni d’Orsi vinifies his DON VINCENZO for a long life. Accordingly, the wood comes into its own when it is young. But this use of wood is really good! Roasted macadamia nuts, Brazilian tobacco, licorice and coffee liqueur on the nose. Lots of ripe, deep dark fruit, typical of 2016, on the nose and on the palate: plum compote, black cherries, elderberry, a hint of dried fruit, plus black tea, cola and dark chocolate. The wine is incredibly heavy, pure power and 15% alcohol. But as is so often the case, the high Sangiovese acidity saves the balance and freshness even in the warm 2016 vintage. Very fine grain of the tannins, but they have barely broken down yet. Great with a real Bistecca alla fiorentina from the grill. Delivered in a wooden box of 6.
