First Stone Red Blend W.O. Stellenbosch Spier

The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this classic Bordeaux blend come from Stellenbosch. The grapes are not crushed, but only the juice runoff is used before the actual pressing. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine matures for 24 months, 55% in new French oak barrels and 45% in second- and third-use barrels. The bouquet offers notes of dark cherries, abundant cassis, and fennel with a hint of allspice. The complexity continues on the palate, which is very balanced with a spicy and elegant finish. It reaches its ideal drinking maturity after about five years.
