Kofl Sauvignon DOC - Kellerei Kurtatsch
Kofl Sauvignon DOC - Kellerei KurtatschA first look into the glass reveals the intense color of Kofl Sauvignon DOC – Kellerei Kurtatsch . Bright, gleaming lemon yellow with delicate green reflections immediately showcases its fresh, cool style from the high-altitude sites of South Tyrol. The aroma rises from the glass with precision and clarity, revealing a multi-faceted yet crystal-clear play of aromas. On the nose, a typical, expressive Sauvignon Blanc character unfolds. Ripe gooseberries meet crisp green bell pepper and fresh lemon zest. Notes of lime, grapefruit and a hint of passion fruit add more depth to the fruit. Fine nuances of nettle, freshly cut grass and delicate herbs such as mint and lemon balm complete the picture. In the background, subtle floral accents shimmer, such as elderflower and white blossoms, along with a cool, almost stony impression reminiscent of wet pebbles and a mountain stream. On the palate, Kofl Sauvignon DOC – Kellerei Kurtatsch displays a taut, precise presence. The texture remains crisp and linear, carried by lively, perfectly integrated acidity. The fruit appears juicy and clear. Ripe lemon, lime and grapefruit move to the foreground, flanked by gooseberry, green bell pepper and a hint of green apple. This impression creates a vibrating pull on the palate that immediately makes you want the next sip. The body shows medium weight, always elegant and cool. Not a gram of fat, but instead a firm structure, fine tension and an intense, pleasantly saline finish. In the long finale, citrus freshness, cassis leaf, some lemongrass and the fine minerality of the gravel-sand soils return. A hint of smoke and delicate notes of flint round off the picture and lend the wine a subtle, Alpine character. Typically Alto Adige, this Sauvignon Blanc showcases the interplay of cool microclimate, Alpine freshness and abundant sunshine on ripe grapes. The variety clearly expresses its strengths: aromatic intensity, bell-clear bouquet, taut acidity and a focused style reminiscent of great Sauvignon Blancs from cool regions of the Old World. Thanks to its DOC classification and origin from Alto Adige, it bears the quality seal of a region known for precise white wines with an Alpine profile. For discerning connoisseurs, this Sauvignon Blanc offers several advantages at once: Intense, varietally typical aromatics with a clear Sauvignon signature Crisp structure and lively acidity for great drinking pleasure Clearly perceptible terroir of gravel and sand with cool minerality Elegant Old World style from a top region in Trentino–South Tyrol Very good aging potential over several years with room for development Production of Kofl Sauvignon DOC from Kellerei Kurtatsch The grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc come from selected sites in Alto Adige, around the wine village of Kurtatsch on the South Tyrolean Wine Road. The vines grow on gravel and sandy soils that store warmth quickly while providing excellent drainage. During the day, plentiful sunshine caresses the grapes, while cool downdrafts from the mountains at night create significant temperature differences. This combination enables ripe aromas while at the same time preserving the fresh acidity. In this Alpine environment, the Sauvignon Blanc variety shows an exceptionally clear, aromatic profile. On the barren, stony soils, it produces small, aromatically dense berries. The grapes thus achieve an intense spectrum of citrus, gooseberry and herbs, along with a distinctive structure. The DOC status underscores the ambition to express origin and typicity precisely in the glass. The harvest is usually selective and focused on perfectly ripe fruit. A relatively early harvest date preserves freshness and aromatics and prevents overly ripe, heavy notes. The picking team consistently sorts out weak parcels so that only ripe grapes reach the press. The grapes are brought quickly into the cellar so that the fresh fruit character is fully preserved. In the cellar, the harvest is gently pressed to delicately extract the fine aromas from the grape skins. A short period of skin contact intensifies the typical Sauvignon profile of gooseberry, citrus and green bell pepper without emphasizing bitter compounds. The cellar master then separates the must from the lees, allowing the wine to ferment clear...| Cena |
