LBV - Quinta de Valeira
LBV - Quinta de ValeiraThe port wine LBV - Quinta de Valeira flows into the glass in a dense, bright ruby red, with violet reflections and rich color depth. At the first swirl, an intense aroma rises, rich and dark, like a basket of ripe fruit in the evening sun. On the nose, pronounced blackberries and dark cherries appear, along with prunes and figs, framed by black pepper, fine cocoa and a hint of nutmeg. Delicate notes of violets, forest floor and warm chocolate round off the bouquet and give the port depth and tension. On the palate, LBV - Quinta de Valeira appears powerful and massive. The dense, almost velvety texture carries the sweet fruit across the tongue with great presence. Ripe blackberries, stewed plums, black cherries and dark berry jam unfold. Nuances of liquorice, dark caramel, sweet tobacco, black tea and roasted nuts emerge. The tannins present themselves ripe and fine, with noticeable grip but without harshness. A fresh, clearly structured acidity carries the sweetness and ensures balance, while the alcohol supports the body and provides a warm, long finish. The style is clearly fruit-driven and at the same time spicy, with plenty of pressure on the palate and an astonishingly multi-layered aftertaste. On the finish, blackberries and prunes appear again, along with espresso, dark chocolate and a fine salty trace, typical of high-quality ports from the Douro. The cuvée of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and complementary regional varieties embodies the classic profile of the upper Douro: intense fruit, pronounced structure, deep color and an impressive aromatic spectrum. Its origin in the Douro Valley in Portugal strongly shapes its character. Steep slate and granite slopes, meagre soils and hot summers form concentrated grapes with small berries and thick skins. Cool nights in the higher altitudes give the berries freshness and aromatic clarity. The region is considered the heart of port wine and shows its full potential here: a wine with power, elegance and unmistakable terroir. Typical aromas of LBV - Quinta de Valeira at a glance: Dark fruits such as blackberry, black cherry and blueberry Dried fruits such as prune, fig and raisin Spice from black pepper, nutmeg and a hint of clove Cocoa, dark chocolate and fine roasted notes Light floral nuances of violet and hints of herbs With its powerful texture, dense sweetness and lively acidity, this port accompanies many moments of enjoyment. It shows its strengths especially in situations where full-bodied sweetness and complex spice are desired. As a noble finale to a festive menu As a velvety companion to rich desserts with chocolate As a meditative soloist by the fireplace or for a late evening conversation As a stylish gift for lovers of characterful ports Production of the LBV from Quinta de Valeira The grapes for this Late Bottled Vintage come from the Douro Valley, one of the most spectacular winegrowing regions in the world. Steep terraces, some with old dry stone walls, stretch along the river Douro and its side valleys. The vines grow on meagre slate and granite soils that store warmth during the day and release it again at night. The climate shows hot, dry summers and cool winters, with little rainfall during the ripening period. Touriga Nacional brings intense aromatics, deep color and fine yet powerful tannins. Touriga Franca contributes fragrant fruit, floral notes and elegance. Tinta Roriz lends structure, spice and a firm backbone of acidity. Complementary regional varieties add complexity, finesse and an additional layer of fruit and spice notes. Together they create a cuvée that impressively showcases the Douro style. The harvest is selective, often in several passes, so that only ripe, aromatic grapes reach the fermentation tanks. In many plots the harvest is done by hand in order to handle the berries gently and keep them intact. After delivery to the cellar, the team sorts the harvested fruit again and removes unripe or damaged berries. The grapes ferment traditionally at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness and fruit. During fermentation, the must draws a lot of color, tannin and aroma from skins and seeds. At a precisely chosen moment, the cellar master stops the fermentation by adding high-quality wine distillate. This preserves part of the grapes’ natural sweetness and raises the alcohol content to the typical level of an LBV port. Afterwards, the young port matures in casks for several years. This longer barrel aging makes the difference compared with classic Vintage Port, which is bottled earlier. Through contact with wood and oxygen, the wine develops more harmony, riper tannins and additional aromas of nuts, cocoa and spices. Organic certification underlines the careful work in the vineyard and the respectful handling of nature and terroir. The producer pursues a style that unites power and elegance. The focus is on clear fruit, pronounced structure and an authentic expression of the Douro. Ever...| Cena |
