On the palate, this light-footed white wine is characterized by an exceptionally crisp texture. On the finish, this youthful wine from the Saar wine-growing region ultimately thrills with considerable length. Hints of mirabelle and lime once again come to the fore. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the silicate rock and slate-dominated soils join in. Vinification of Van Volxem Schiefer Riesling The basis for the elegant Schiefer Riesling from the Saar is grapes of the Riesling variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Saar. Here, the vines drive their roots deep into soils of slate and silicate rock. The wine berries for this German white wine are harvested exclusively by hand at optimal ripeness. After harvesting, the grapes are immediately brought to the press house. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Schiefer Riesling can continue to harmonize for several months on the fine lees. Food recommendation for the Schiefer Riesling from Van Volxem This German wine is best enjoyed well chilled at 8 - 10°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to baked feta cheese parcels, pasta with grilled sausage dumplings, or pumpkin casserole.
