Saint-Joseph AOP Tardieu - Maison Tardieu-Laurent

The 2023 vintage began with a classic, cold winter without spring frost. A rainy growing season favored growth. Good water reserves allowed for a moderate summer with occasional rainfall, ensuring the vineyards remained healthy until mid-August. However, a subsequent heat wave hit young vines and early-ripening sites particularly hard, resulting in highly variable quality. Syrah vineyards with old vines, such as those at Maison Tardieu, again benefited. The Syrah is velvety yet vibrant, displaying great precision. The nose offers aromas of dark cherries and spicy plums, underpinned by warm spices and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, it is complex, with a salty, dark aromatic profile of red and black fruits, leather, dried herbs, and a hint of star anise. Fine, present tannins provide structure. The long finish is concentrated and imbued with a pronounced mineral tension.
