93-94/100 PP Martin Donatsch's 2020 Chardonnay Malans Unique is still a bit reductive but nevertheless explosive after a generous aeration to reveal an enormously deep and intense but elegant, pure, complex and flinty-mineral nose that displays all that the grape variety can deliver fruit-wise. Yet here is a beautiful mix of lemon peel, very fine oak and polished fruit intensity that makes this 2020 a kind of Burgundy made in Malans, Graubünden. On the palate, this is a pure, fresh and entirely mineral-driven but also finely juicy and perfectly balanced Chardonnay selection with stimulatingly vital character, well-dosed power and still-youthful tannin grip, which becomes finer and much better integrated with aeration. On day five, this wine shone brightly and impressively intense. Very promising and long. Diam cork. Tasted as a sample ready for bottling in January 2022. (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com)
