The herbal spice on the nose is typical of Doosberg, a characteristic we know from our two best parcels in the Doosberg vineyard, situated higher up and on steeper slopes than the vineyards sloping down towards the Rhine. Aging in large wooden casks and extended lees contact, in turn, contribute to a richness and depth, making the Doosberg one of our most distinctive GGs. 93 POINTS CUP OF GOURMET WORLDS Location & Terroir Vineyard: The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® DOOSBERG is located on the eastern edge of the Rheingau municipality of Oestrich. The constant wind here is particularly advantageous in autumn, as it dries the vines after rain and fog, protecting the grapes from fungal diseases. The GL DOOSBERG vineyard faces south to southwest with a 5 to 10 percent slope and is situated at an altitude of 110 to 130 meters. The soils consist of calcareous loess loam, partly with terrace sediments. The gravelly slopes and the incline, which forms a sloping plane, allow the soils to retain water well. GL DOOSBERG is a Riesling vineyard. History: The name derives from Dachsberg (Badger Hill), as badgers once favored the loamy and humus-rich soils. Terroir: Carboniferous loess loam, partly with terrace sediments.
