Riesling VDP.Grosse Lage Pulvermächer Stetten GG Karl Haidle

The Stettener Pulvermächer was first mentioned in 1650. Blasting operations were carried out in the nearby quarry by the Pulvermächer (an old job title for blasting master). It is a south-southwest facing slope with a gradient of up to 60%. The vineyards of this site surround the Y-Burg. The most valuable part of the site, however, are the old stone terraces directly below the castle, where heat is particularly well retained. It is precisely in these stone terraces that the Riesling grapes grow on vines that are up to 50 years old. The siliceous sandstone soils are barren, allowing the vines to develop very deep roots, forming the basis for a minerally, elegant wine. On the nose, the Pulvermächer is much finer and more restrained than other Rieslings from the estate. You can almost smell the calcareous soils. Citrus aromas such as lime and hints of orange zest are present, with some stone fruit also noticeable in the background. Very creamy and powerful on the palate. A very precise acidity provides an ideal counterpoint. The vibrant minerality and its characteristic salinity enthrall us. This wine is already a pleasure to drink, but also has very good aging potential.
