Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Loacker - Tenuta Corte Pavone

2018 was a good vintage in Montalcino, but perhaps not a truly great one. Sufficient snow and precipitation fell throughout the winter and spring, which was necessary for the vines to cope with the very dry months of June and July. The second half of September brought unwelcome rains, which forced a somewhat hasty end to the harvest in some areas. The initial nose offers kola nut, Morello cherries, and dried plums, along with coconut, dark tobacco, and very subtle animal notes. On the palate, it is very herbaceous: black pepper, dried rosemary, and menthol. Spicy, almost sharp, and cool at the same time. In the background, there is also a hint of iron and the sparse minerality of the Galestro soils. This full-bodied Brunello has considerable weight, the tannins are well-structured, and the wine lingers on the palate for a very long time.
